Student Academic Achievement Report 10/11/23

USD 253 Board of Education received updates regarding the academic achievement report that provided information on the Kansas State Assessments (KSA), FastBridge, and the American College Testing (ACT).

At the Wednesday evening USD 253 Board of Education meeting, the Board received an academic achievement update from Mrs. Judy Stanley, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching, Learning and Student Services, Dr. Ryan Karjala, Director of Assessments and Accountability,  Mrs. Tara Glades, Director of Student Services,  and Dr. Erica Mickelson, Director of Teaching and Learning.  The group shared highlights of the positive shift in assessment data that occurred during the spring and fall of 2023. Overall improvements were seen in each assessment tool including the Kansas State Assessments (KSA), the American College Testing (ACT), and FastBridge.  Each of the assessments provides data that supports overall student achievement increases across the district.

As part of the overview, several reasons were identified as to why the district is experiencing success in achievement.  Two of these include the adoption of a new English Language Arts and Math resource and the increased focus on building Data Talks.  Stanley said, “We are excited to be able to share this information with the Board. It is a true testament to the hard work of the students and staff of Emporia Public Schools.  We appreciate the efforts that have been made and look forward to having continued success in student achievement.”

The Board will use the assessment data that was presented in conjunction with the needs assessment to guide future budget decisions that will continue to support students and their academic achievement.
